Powder Fire Extinguisher
Powder fire extinguishers usually contain multi-purpose fire fighting powder, which is suitable for use on Class A, B and C fires.
Powder fire extinguishers have the classic red body colour with a distinctive blue panel above. They are ideal for use in a wide variety of locations, from factories to vehicles, warehouses to homes. The resulting residue left after use can easily be swept up and safely disposed of. However, during use, the resulting dust cloud makes powder extinguishers unsuitable for use in residential homes, hotels, offices or any place where visibility at all times is essential. Any powder left in prolonged contact with metal may affect the metals.
The 'top of the range' powder available is Monnex, which has 150% of the fire-fighting capability of ordinary powder. It is suitable for use in any high risk areas, such as motor sports venues, airports, etc.
Powder Fire Extinguishers: Refill or Replace?
Like all fire extinguishers, powder models need annual maintenance checks, and do have a finite life. When the time comes to either refurbish or refill your powder fire extinguishers, it may actually be cheaper to replace them with new extinguishers from Essential Fire Safety. Your out of date powder fire extinguishers can be used for fire safety training before being sent for recycling.
