Water additive fire extinguishers are not only more effective in tackling Class A fires, but they are lighter to handle too. A 6 litre water additive extinguisher weighs 30% less than a conventional water extinguisher, and also has a 21A fire rating, higher than than the water extinguisher's 13A rating. Water additive extinguishers are often referred to as Hydrospray extinguishers, which are only made by Chubb Fire. Hydrospray fire extinguishers have a special nozzle, which gives both an accurate and wide spray of water. While a Hydrospray extinguisher should never be used on or near electrical equipment, if some of the spray accidentally makes contact with live equipment, the non-conductive nozzle will protect the fire extinguisher user from shocks.
