Fire exits are designed first and foremost to let people out, but in turn they are vulnerable to letting unwanted visitors in, which is why you need to consider fire exit security on your business premises.
One simple solution is the familiar "Break Glass for Key" keybox. Place your fire exit key inside, provide a hammer on a chain, and in the event of an emergency, the key is right to hand.
Another solution is the panic bolt. In order to access the bolt securing your fire door, the user needs to break a glass tube with the attached mini hammer, before they can slide the bolt back. However, this does result in shards of broken glass in your fire exit doorway, not an ideal situation especially in hotels or hospitals, where people may not be wearing shoes.
Fire Exit Security Without Glass
A Ceramtube contains no glass, so is much safer to use. Any standard glass panic bolt measuring 127mm x diameter 17mm can be replaced with a Ceramtube.
Your staff may be tempted to use a fire escape as a quick way out for their lunch break, or a sneak cigarette. An Exit Stopper alarm gives your staff fair warning that the fire door is alarmed, and if they still use it, an ear-piercing 97db siren sounds, powered by just a 9v battery. The Exit Stopper is also useful for retail premises, where shoplifters may attempt to escape by fire exits.
