Fire buckets are perhaps the most basic item of fire fighting equipment available, and certainly most people know how to use one! From garage forecourts to car repair shops, workshops to race tracks, a fire bucket is hard to beat for convenience.

The design has not altered much over the last fifty years, comprising a red bucket with the word FIRE on the side, and topped with a lid. Today, you can choose from robust metal or corrosion-free plastic. A lid is always useful to keep out dust, rubbish, and, for outside fire buckets, the inevitable cigarette ends.

Mounting Your Fire Buckets

The plastic fire bucket from Essential Fire Safety is D-shaped, so it sits snugly against a wall, and holds up to 10 litres of contents. It also has a handhold space under the base for more accurate throwing of the contents. Floor-standing buckets are vulnerable to being knocked or kicked over, so it is best to mount all fire buckets on the wall using a metal fire bucket bracket.

Traditionally, a fire bucket would be filled with water or sand, but lift the lid on many fire buckets today and you'll discover Flamezorb inside. Flamezorb is a non-toxic compound that smothers flames, and is easy to clean up after use. It is also highly absorbent, making it ideal for use on oil or fuel spillages. A 2kg will fill a 10 litre fire bucket, and last for years.
