Fire blankets are not just for the kitchen, as they can be effective in a wide range of business and home situations.

Having said that, Essential Fire Safety always recommend that every kitchen, commercial or domestic, should have at least one fire blanket. Made from flexible, thermal efficient and fire resistant fabric, a fire blanket smothers small fires by depriving them of oxygen. All high quality blankets from Essential Fire Safety conform to BS EN 1869:1997, and are BSi Kitemarked.

An economy fire blanket is ideal for a small flat or studio kitchen, while the 1.2sqm blanket is suitable for larger family kitchens. Commercial kitchens with larger burners and ranges should invest in a 1.8m by 1.75m fire blanket for maximum protection.

Fire Blankets: Beyond the Kitchen

Since a fire blanket is so simple to use, providing them across your business premises is not only cheap and easy, but potentially lifesaving too. Attach a fire blanket on a welding trolley, for example, to smother small fires started by accidental sparks or dripping solder. Keep one beside waste paper bins in case of accidental ignition, or in laboratories to smother small, non-metal fires. In the event of a serious incident, staff can even protect themselves with a fire blanket whilst making their escape.

Fire blankets are also extremely useful in confined spaces such as caravans boats and mobile homes, where storage space is at a premium.
