Most people are familiar with hard-wired fire alarms in public buildings, but there are several portable options suitable for use on temporary premises, construction sites, or where hardwired systems are simply not suitable.
Manual Fire Alarms
The simplest fire alarm is probably still one of the best, a rotary fire alarm bell. Operated by just turning the handle, this robust bell requires no electrical power, and emits a clear, 60db alarm that can be heard up to 35 metres away.
For noisy environments such as factory floors, warehouses or construction sites, an independently powered alarm is ideal. These stand-alone battery fire alarms are powered with a normal 9v battery, and simply fix to a wall or a fire point. Essential Fire Safety recommend the Megalarm for its 90db alarm siren and sleek lines, or the unmissable 118db emitted by the robust Howler unit, which is suitable for outdoor use too. For tough outdoor environments, the heavy duty Howler alarm is both robust and easy to use, with a simple push button operation.
If your staff are spread over a large outdoor site, they may not have quick access to a fire point or alarm. A gas horn provides them with their own, personal fire alarm system should they need to alert their fellow workers. These light yet extremely noisy air horns are also ideal for fire marshals and stewards at public outdoor events.
